Note Almost certainly English in origin, these large and extremely unusual plates, with lithographed rhymed quatrains beneath, depict a horse race in which two black jockeys compete at breakneck speed, so that " Now the Winner comes in decidedly blown, / Tho'ere two miles were done the race was her own / But they go the whole hog in this western clime, / When they've beaten the field they run against time. " Not in any of the standard sources. Rare. |
