Note

Haynes, a nurseryman from Oundle in Northamptonshire, wrote a number of horticultural works. Here he expounds a method for growing strawberries which supplies "with the utmost certainty ... ample crops of superlatively large and fully ripe fruit in the driest seasons". Raspberries and gooseberries are also treated at length in separate sections.
