Description

Two volumes, 12mo, [viii], 228pp., early ownership inscription to titles, ownership plates to front paste-down endpapers, contemporary calf with gilt numbering to spines. A fine copy.

Note

First edition with this dedication, expanded from a work published by Baldwin in 1756 as 'The Tell-Tale' and then reprinted several times. The collection was retitled in 1775 as 'The Fashionable Tell-Tale' and dedicated to Samuel Foote, after whose death in 1777 the dedication was made out to Garrick.
