Description First edition. 3 volumes, 4to., errata leaf at the end of volume iii. Contemporary red morocco, gilt spines with ornaments forming a saltire pattern perhaps suggest a Scottish binding; one patch of surface abrasion and a head of spine repaired. |

Note Attractive set in full red morocco of an uncommon work, including all famous plays of Euripides, Aeschylus, Sophocles... Samuel Johnson wrote the Dedication which Hazen says is "one of Johnson's best" (p. 92). In volume II, Johnson translated 'A Dissertation upon the Greek Comedy' (pp. 123-61) and 'The General Conclusion' (pp. 428-40). |
