Folio (52.7 x 36.5). 56 lithographic plates, some double-page, each signed; occasional small marginal tears to plates without affecting images. Kept in two original portfolios; very worn. Provenance: Adolphe Legoupy (bookplate on the upper pastedown).


Note

Two portfolios containing more than fifty coloured lithographs by a prominent French caricaturist Georges Goursat (1863-1934), known as Sem, who was famous during the Belle Époque for his witty depictions of French high society. The present album, published during Goursat's staying in Paris where he arrived for the opening of the Universal Exposition, comprises caricatures on prominent Parisian socialites and their amusements.
