Description

Four volumes, 8vo., engraved titles, 24 hand-coloured and 29 plain aquatint folding plates (i.e. the plates in 2 states, coloured and plain, with five plain plates in 2 states) by George Cruickshank after Vernet, Isabey, and others, lacking half-titles from vols1 and 2 and preliminaries from all volumes, a few plates trimmed at foot, affecting imprints and occasionally title, a few small stains, mostly marginal, finely bound by Riviere & Son in dark blue crushed morocco gilt, covers ruled in gilt, spines in 6 compartments, gilt lettered direct in second and third, others richly gilt with /napoleonic centre-pieces, raised bands, all edges gilt, gilt inner dentelles, a very handsome set.


Note

One of the most beautifull illustrated books on Napoleon's life and exploits, this copy with the plates in 2 states and most elegantly bound.
