Note

Part French, part Swiss, Claire-Éliane Engel (1903-1976) was a specialist in mountaineering and alpine literature. She published many books and multiple articles on these topics which she studied and researched for years. This copy is a retrospective of the first expeditions in the Himalayas and has been translated into Japanese in 1943.
