8vo, [iv], 232 pp., 42 double-page engraved maps, plans and views, View of Negropont (sic) on p. 204 with short split to fold, small old ink splashes to A5 and A8 (recto & verso). Contemporary calf ruled in blind, neatly rebacked. Provenance: 1. A. Robertson, Observatory, Oxford (ink inscription to ffep); 2. Wm. Cotton, London, November 1830 (ink inscription).

Note

A scarce edition and the first printed in the Netherlands, this is a new translation prepared from the Italian text rather than being simply a reprint of the French translation by Barbin. It seems to have appeared in octavo only, and not in folio as with other editions. The plates were also newly engraved for this edition. This is a very presentable copy; often editions of this work are quite tightly bound, but here text and illustrations open out well.
