First edition. 8vo., 219pp., uncut in modern half calf gilt, red morocco lettering piece, contemporary ownership inscription to head of title, light foxing to half-title else a clean crisp copy.

Note

Scarce. During the war with Spain the English admiral Vernon sailed, in 1741, to Cuba, but failed to take Santiago, largely as a result of his poor relationship with General Wentworth who was in command of the land forces. The disastrous campaign occasioned the appearance of many controversial pamphlets. The present compilation consists chiefly of letters of the admiral, many written to Wentworth, and probably issued by Vernon.
