First edition. 2 volumes, 8vo., viii, 447; viii, 588pp., 2 portrait frontispieces, numerous wood-engraved plates, 2 maps (1 large folding), original green cloth gilt, large gilt vignette to upper covers, one corner bumped, inner hinges cracked, generally a very good clean set. Provenance: Harry Vernon Foley with armorial bookplate and pre-publication gift inscription dated October 17th 1865.


Note

Baker was given supreme power by the Khedive to rout the Slave Trade. While most of the narrative involves travel and military adventure, there are several episodes of sport as well.
