Note

Rare. A valuable account of Anglo-Bhutanese relations at the time of the war between the two countries in 1864. Eden was sent to Bhutan to protest at the harbouring by the Bhutanese of Sikkimese dissidents after the Anglo-Sikkimese War of 1861. The mission was a failure and Eden's public humiliation precipitated war with Bhutan.
