First Italian edition . 4to (25 x 18 cm) pp.xi, 358, 32 plates after photographs taken by Vittorio Sella, 5 maps, folding panoramas, 14 pages of manuscript notes bound in at front, publisher's printed cream wrappers, repairs to the spine, housed in modern blue cloth fold-over box with printed label on rear; a very good copy.

Note

Classic reference work on this tropical range; the expedition suceeded in climbing all the principal peaks. The expedition was led by Prince Luigi Amedeo of Savoy. He explored the Snowy Range of Ruwenzori on the borders of the Congo and Uganda, in the centre of Equatorial Africa and included in this detailed comprehensive volume the data and and observations upon which the geographical and scientific results of the expedition were based. This is a publisher's copy of the rare first Italian edition *. The English, German and French editions were all published a year later in 1909).This copy contains 14 pages of manuscript notes from a previous owner. Very scarce in wrappers.
