Fifth edition, 8vo., xxvii, 436pp., folding plan, 31 lithograph plates (1 foloding with short tear at fold), contemporary olive-green half morocco gilt, raised bands, marbled edges and sides, an excellent copy.

Note

Eyre was one of the very few to escape death in the disastrous retreat from Kabul in 1842, having the comparative fortune of being taken prisoner. The manuscript of the book had to be smuggled out in parts to a friend in India; the first edition ends abruptly at page 314, being continued and concluded in the separately published journal of Imprisonment. This edition contains both works.
