First editions. 3 volumes, 8vo, (26 x 18 cms), x, 356, viii; 339; x, 372pp., numerous illustrations, some coloured, 7 folding maps including one folding panorama, spotting on the cloth of "Assault" and "Fight", fore-edges, spine faded on one vol, publisher's blue, red and green cloth, gilt lettered, some slight wear to the extremities; overall an excellent set.


Note

This impressive collection narrates the story of the various British expeditions to reach the summit of Mount Everest. The first expedition in 1921 was led by Lieutenant-Colonel C.K. Howard-Bury. There was a second attempt in 1922 which included George Leigh Mallory who died in the 1924 expedition.
