Note The second volume includes the account of Golovnin's deputy, P.I. Rikord, who conducted the negotiations for his commander's release. The third volume contains an account of the fur-trading voyages to the Northwest coast of America conducted by Khvostov and Davydov. The original English edition appeared in 1818 in two volumes entitled "Narrative of my Captivity in Japan", with the third volume appearing separately as "Recollections of Japan" in 1819; the present edition is the first publication of the three together as a set. The Russian original appeared in 1816. |
