Small 4to., [viii], iv, 140pp., this copy presented to Robert Gardner by the author, additional pictorial lithographed title, 16 full-page lithograph plates, illustrations in text, contemporary brown morocco gilt by Remnant, Edmonds & Remnants, covers with gilt borders, spine in six compartments, gilt lettered direct in second and fourth, others richly gilt, large pictorial gilt device to upper cover, raised bands, all edges gilt, tiny waterstain to lower margin of last few plates, occasional light spotting, a fine copy.

Note

A most attractive example of this scarce treatise. Woodcroft was passionate about steam engines and was responsible for saving Stevenson's Rocket for the nation and also for the founding of the Science Museum.
