Note First edition in English of Kotzebue's first voyage. Kotzebue details the second Russian circumnavigation and this edition contains plates and maps not in the first Russian edition of 1821-23. One of the most important early nineteenth century voyages, its primary objectives were the exploration of the Pacific islands and the finding of a northern passage from the Pacific to the Atlantic. during its three-year circumnavigation of the world it visited Brazil, Cape Horn, Chili, Kamchatka, Alaska, and California, returning to Russia via the Philippines, Cape of Good hope, and Saint Helena.
