Description Two volumes, 8vo. Half-title, frontispiece, title, dedication , VI, 336 [but 335] pp, with 5 folding tables, 2 plates, woodcut in the text; 374 pp. including half-title and title, with a woodcut in text, a plate, a folding table, index, hand-coloured folding plan of Moscow at rear; vol.I, ll. 15 and 31 with marginal burnt holes without affecting the text. Contemporary half-calf over marble boards, spine with raised bands ruled and lettered in gilt, red silk bookmarks; slightly rubbed at extremities. |

Note Very fresh and in fine condition; unusual with the large plan of Moscow hand-coloured. Laveau had a good knowledge of Moscow, where he was based as secretary of the Imperial Natrualists Society, and the work, printed in that city, contains much interesting social and statistical information among others. This is the second and preferred edition, as the 1824 first edition did not include the large engraved plan of the city. |
