Note

Meyer's Coloured Illustrations of British Birds and their eggs, is not only one of the most beautiful and important British bird books, it also had a very complex publishing history. There were five issues of the book, and after the author's death, the family offered a series of additional watercolours to illustrate eggs not present in some issues of the work. These are known as the "Additional Plates". Professor Hale is the leading authority on this publication which he has studied over many years. the present work is the distillation and fruit of that knowledge. All the known additional plates are featured in Professor Hales' book so that there are images available which complete the missing eggs from any copy of the five editions of the folio Illustrations.
