Note Fine copy of this unusual item. Meant to be a 'Putevoditel po vystavk predmetov selskago khozyaystva i promyshlennosti' [Guide of the exhibition of agricultural and industrial tools] which took place in Tashkent, Uzbekistan in 1890, it actually extends into a survey of Central Asia at the end of the 19th century, giving some biographical information on its main figures and an overview of its productions, and ressources. Originally from St. Petersburg, Maev (1835-96) was a journalist and came to Tashkent once Turkestan was conquered. His journalist activity there took also the form of scientific and discovery travels and publications during more than 20 years, making him a wide-ranging specialist of the region. |
