Librerias de Castillo, Madrid. 1799 [but circa 1804]. 2 series in 4 volumes, 8vo., first series with hand-coloured engraved title and 369 hand-coloured plates numbered from 1-384, without plates 97-112; second series (without title-page), with 72 hand-coloured engraved plates, engravings by Albuerne, Marti, Vazquez, and Rodriguez, after original drawings by Rodriguez, uniformly bound in nineteenth century brown half morocco, marbled boards, a clean, attractive collection of plates from the library of Amandine Doré with bookplate.
Colas calls for 300 engravings only for the first work, and 116 for the second. A manuscript note tipped-in at the front of the first volume states that there were and additional 20 plates for the second work in a separate "pochette" but these are now missing. The present set is presumably an expanded combined issue of the two series, hence the considerable increase in plates in the first series and the lack of title-page for the second. The first series includes plates from Cyprus, the Americas (including California and Red Indian), China, Korea, Japan, Philippines, Siam, Russia, etc. Rodriguez (1765-1823), studied, and later taught, at the Valencia Academy. Cf. Colas 2565 & 2566.
