[Collection of engravings of horses.]


Bonn, [c.1820-1830]. Large folio, 11 engraved plates, all in mounts, bound in a modern straight grained morocco backed boards, raised bands, spine gilt ruled.

Nine of the horses are named. D'Alton who was an accomplished engraver was Professor of Natural History at the University of Bonn. He produced Natural History and landscape engravings. On the strength of his engravings he was made a member of the Berlin Academy of Arts. He was the first to transfer crayon drawings to stone in 1802. He died in Bonn in 1840.
