(27 x 35 cms), lithographed title-page with small loss in one corner, 34 handcoloured lithographs, all captioned, several with very minor loss to corners not affectiong the plates, all housed loose in publisher's portfolio, joints slightly cracked, list of plates on endpapers, cloth spine, lithographed title mounted on upper cover, slightly spotted; otherwise a fine copy.
This fine collection of plates depict various breeds of horse against either landscape or architectural background. Emil Volkers (1831- 1905) was an artist known for his landscape and animal scenes. He worked for a time for the Prince of Romania in Bucharest but most of his career was spent in Dusseldorf. Benezit 14, p. 450.Nissen ZB1 4277.
