Macmillan and Co., London 1913. First edition, 8vo., xviii, 263pp., ownership inscription of D. T. Jack, folding table, original brick-red cloth, gilt lettering to spine, edges soiled but internally clean save the most occasional light foxing, a very good copy.

The author's first book, written after a trip to India, in 1912, at the behest of Francis Birrell, a Cambridge acquaintance and associate of the Bloomsbury set. This copy features the ownership inscription of contemporary economist D. T. Jack. Jack published economic works from the 1920s through 1950s, including The Economics of the Gold Standard (1925), The Restoration of European Currency (1927), The Crisis of 1931 (1931), Currency and Banking (1932), and Studies in Economic Warfare (1940).
