First illustrated edition, one of 250 numbered copies signed by author and illustrator, small 4to., 550pp., with colour illustrations and black and white vignettes throughout by John Lawrence, handsomely bound by Sangorski & Sutcliffe in full green morocco, a pair of rabbits in the grass blindstamped and gilt to upper cover, spine in six compartments separated by rasied bands, gilt lettering direct to second and third compartments, others alternating with wheat and rabbit motifs, marbled endpapers, all edges gilt, housed in a marbled slipcase as issued, spine ever so slightly sunned, a beautiful deluxe copy of a twentieth century children's classic.
