J.L. de Boubers, Paris, 1782. 3 vols, 8vo, altogether 176 plates (29, 84 and 63 in vols I, II and III respectively), lacking 5 plates, printed on heavy light-blue paper with good margins and relating to pruning trees, their various fruits, leaves, stems, and their blossoms, contemporary full speckled calf, spines flat in compartments gilt, morocco labels, overall an excellent copy.
One of the outstanding botanists of the eighteenth century, Duhamel was a member of the French minor nobility, whose family wealth allowed him to pursue his interests in agronomy, botany, chemistry and naval technology; however he is best remembered for his work on fruit trees.
