[ca.1856]. Manuscript map (98.3 x 65 cm) dissected in 16 parts laid on linen and folding, fully hand-coloured, manuscript key, manuscript label at the back 'Plan osady g. Sevastopolya [Plan of the Siege of Sebastopol]'. Provenance: Baron Tornau, 12 November 1856 (Cyrillics manuscrit presentation to him at the back).
Fine manuscript map of the defense system of Sebastopol, entirely coloured by hand and in excellent condition, presented to the Russian spy, officer, diplomat and writer Fedor Fedorovich Tornau (1810-90). The inscription, with a signature still to be deciphered, reads 'G. Polkovniku Baronu Tornau v znake pamyati i polnoy (?) privyazanosti. Bolgrad (?), 12 Noyabr 1856'. It shows an overview of the city and the harbour, detailing in Russian all military constructions like the 'Nikolaevskaya batareya', the 'Rostislavskiy redut' and the various 'Bastiony'.
