JOHNSTON, Sir Harry
The Uganda Protectorate an attempt to give some description of the physical geography, botany, zoology, anthropology, languages and history of the territories under British protection in East Central Africa, between the Congo Free State and the Rift Valley and between the first degree of south latitude and the fifth degree of north latitude.

Johnston was sent out to Uganda in 1899 as a special commissioner to sort out the civil war and various other problems. By 1901 he had managed to pacify the country and build a lasting relationship between the British and the Ugandans. This title is one of the most valuable works on the region.
