Sampson Low, London 1882. First edition. 2 volumes, 8vo., 2 large folding maps, illustrations from photographs and sketches, 32 pages of ads, original pale cloth gilt, map to upper covers, lightly soiled, corners worn, a very good copy from the library of H.M. Stanley, without bookplates.
Stanley had first spotted the opening for missionaries in Uganda; the authors of the present work were from the Church Missionary Society and thus were in East Africa as a result of Stanley's vision. The book is important for providing a thorough description of Uganda, and, in fact, makes little mention of missionary work. A scarce account.
