FAULKNER, Henry
Elephant Haunts: being a sportsman's narrative of the search for Dr. Livingstone, with scenes of elephant, buffalo, and hippopotamus hunting.
Hurst & Blackett, London 1868. First edition. 8vo., ix, 324pp., 16 pages of ads at end, frontispiece, later tan half morocco gilt by Macdonald, spine darkened, joints rubbed, withal a nice clean copy from the library of John H. Foster, F.R.G.S., with a lenghty and amusing inscription to him from big-game hunter, Russ Aitkin.
In 1867, Royal Navy lieutenant E.D.Young trekked to Africa to find the great missionary-explorer David Livingstone, who was reported to be lost while searching for the origins of the Nile. Faulkner joined the expedition primarily to hunt. His efforts collecting elephant, buffalo, and hippo in present day Malawi and around Lake Nyasa are duly captured in this rare narative. - Czech. Czech p56.
