Murray, London 1816 & 1815. 2 volumes 4to., first work new edition, xviii, [ii], 458pp., 2 large folding maps, folding chart, 5 engraved plates; second work second edition, xvii, [iii], 373pp., large folding map, engraved music plate; occasional foxing to text and a couple of plates, generally very clean, uniformly bound in contemporary diced calf, spines in 5 compartments, green morocco labels to second and fourth, broad raised bands gilt, marbled boards and edges, a very attractive set.

The most renowned of all the early accounts of the exploration of the interior of Africa by a European. The first work is an account of the author's pioneering expedition up the River Niger; the second, posthumously published work tells of his fatal return to the region. PMM 253.
