First edition, Colonial issue, 2 volumes in 1, 8vo., 276; 297pp., portrait frontispiece, 85 black and white illustrations from photographs (4 double page panoramic views), 1 folding map, together with 2 large folding maps on linen of the Upper Zambezi Basin and the Great Lakes divided into three sections, folded in pockets at front and back, original grey cloth lettered and stamped in black with map of Africa on upper cover, neat ownership inscription on blank recto of frontispiece to volume one, joints worn but sound, preliminary leaves and last few leaves foxed, a very good copy.

Gibbons set out to discover the main source of the Zambesi and define and map the regions. These two volumes provide excellent information on the terrain and rivers, as well as the peoples inhabiting the area. (Czech). Czech pp62-63.
