TURNER, Captain Samuel
An account of an embassy to the court of the Teshoo Lama, in Tibet; containing a narrative of a journey through Bootan, and part of Tibet.
Bulmer, London 1800. First edition. 4to., xxviii, 473pp., engraved folding map, 13 engraved plates, some light toning as usual, modern speckled half calf gilt by Aquarius, a very good copy.
An account of the second Mission to Tibet made by Turner at the request of Warren Hastings in 1783. This followed on from Bogle's 1774 Mission. The account of Bogle's Mission was not published until much later and so Turner's account remained the earliest and best narrative on Tibet in English for many years. Cox I, 346; Yakushi T277a.
