A concise and accurate account of the proceedings of the squadron under the command of Rear Admiral Sir Sidney Smith, K. S. &c. in effecting the escape of the royal family of Portugal to the Brazils, on November, 29, 1807 and also the sufferings of the royal fugitives, &c. during their voyage from Lisbon to Rio Janeiro with a variety of other interesting and authentic facts.

.. As rare as the first edition. BdM (BdM writes of the first edition a very rare and well printed pamphlet). First published in 1809, the second edition is preferred on account of a 24-page description of Rio de Janeiro and the neighbouring coastline. The original narrative only going as far as the landing in Brazil. The Regent, later King John VI, on Napoleon's advance in November 1807 towards Lisbon, availed himself of the English offer to convey him and his family to Brazil and on Nov. 29th sailed to America with his fleet and the English squadron under Sir Sydney Smith which had been lying at the mouth of the Tagus. The author was a lieutenant on board the London. BdM p630; Sabin 57346.
