Second edition. 2 vols, 8vo, (21 x 14 cms), vi, 438, 442pp, folding map Ceylon at rear of vol II. 19 wood-engraved plates, some leaves slightly browned, contemporary half red morocco, marbled boards, spine gilt lettered and ruled, a little rubbed; a good firm copy.

Miss Gordon Cumming, a wealthy spinster, travelled extensively and was nicknamed by Isabella Bird a "globe-trotteress". She visited Ceylon to see her old parish priest who had been appointed Bishop of Columbo. Wayward Women p. 94.
