Rare. An important work on the Opium Wars. Contains Chinese proclamations demanding the surrender by foreigners of their opium; proclamations demanding an end to English trade; a memorial for the suppression of foreign intercourse and the extermination of foreigners, with a supplement relating to the Portuguese of Macao; and a section offering rewards fro the arrest and murder of the English. "Text of memorials of Lin Tse-hsu dealing with the opium question, with their translation printed below them. The Chinese text, cut on woodblocks and running left to right (contrary to normal Chinese usage), was inserted in the form, with Western headlines above and translation below." (Lust).
