First edition, second issue, "Prize" copy, 8vo., viii, 368pp., frontispiece, folding map (lightly creased, short tear at fold), 3 tinted lithographs, original blue blind stamped cloth gilt, upper cover with large gilt device, all edges gilt, lightly soiled, inner hinges with short splits but very sound, prize inscription dated 1857 to front paste-down, an excellent copy.
Burton's first book and one of his less common titles. Penzer mentions "Prize" copies in red cloth gilt. Penzer pp 37-38.
