Small 4to (1.5 x 18.5cm) xi, [1, blank], 199pp., presentation copy with note on front flyleaf: "a present from the author a Naples 1794", presumably gifted to the "Edward Gordon" whose engraved bookplate is pasted inside front cover, a very attractive copy in an unusual contemporary Italian binding, calf mottled in orange and green, boards bordered in gilt and cornered with an acorn tool, this repeated on spine, modern bookplate of R.M.Burrell, some light wear to extremities, all edges red.

Rooke was on one of the ships in the British Fleet that sailed in 1781 in an abortive attempt to capture the Cape of Good Hope from the Dutch and French. He gives descriptions of Mocha, Jeddah and Cairo. ESTC records only 3 copies of this edition: L; LEu; MBAt.
