The first chapter is by St. John Philby, who along with Sir Aurel Stein and the author was responsible for many of the illustrations. This book is the most complete monograph on the ruins of Petra. The author received the co-operation of Husain, King of Nejd and Hejaz who gave him the title of Pasha.
