John Murray, London 1843. . [First edition]. 8vo (20 x 14 cms), pp.xv, 314, engraved frontispiece, several vignettes throughout the text, previous owner's inscription on front free endpaper, some minor spotting throughout, original green blind-stamped cloth, spine gilt lettered; a fine copy.

Paris (1818-1909) was a gifted artist who exhibited at the Royal Academy. He was also a member of the British Alpine Club. Apart from the work above he also wrote several guides for John Murray including the handbook for "Devon and Cornwall" , "Wiltshire" and the Knapsack guide to Switzerland.
