Priestley accompanied Shackleton on the British Antarctic expedition, 1907-9, and Scott on his 1910 expedition. The book consists of songs written and composed in the Antarctic by shipboard members of the relief ship "Morning" in the course of Scott's "Discovery" expedition, 1901-4, principally by J.D.
