First edition. 8vo xii, 364 pp., 32 pages ads at end, title vignette, 3 maps (1 folding, 1 full-page, 1 in text), 120 illustrations (8 full-page), original coarse-grain green cloth, upper cover with image of boats and ice in brown and silver, spine and cover lettered in silver, gilt armorial stamp to covers else an excellent copy.

This was an important whaling expedition to the Weddell Sea, the first of its kind since 1843. In many respects, the narrative helped to revive British interest in the Antarctic. Taurus 12; Rosove 234.A1.
