First edition. 2 volumes, 8vo., lii, [4], 366; v-x (i-iv not published), [4], 447pp., 16 pages ads dated October 1847 at end, 8 maps (3 folding [1 with short tear to fold repaired], 1 full-page), 8 lithograph plates, 19 text illustrations, original blue pictorial cloth gilt, rear inner hinge vol i neatly repaired, little light staining to parts of cloth, generally an excellent set. Provenance: I. Richard Fort, Read Hall, bookplate; II. David Parsons, book label.

The account of the first voyage to enter what is known today as the Ross Sea, the first to sight the Admiralty Mountains, the first to see Victoria Land, Ross Island, Mounts Erebus and Terror, and the Ross Ice Shelf, amongst other momentous discoveries.
