First deluxe limited edition. 4to, 210pp text, 100 full page colour illustrations, signed "Publisher's copy" in ink on limitation page,slight spotting on front and rear endpapers, all edges gilt, attractively bound by Morrell in contemporary half red morocco, marbled boards, spine lavishly gilt decorated; a very attractive copy.
Edition limited to 1000 copies. This copy is unnumbered but signed in ink "Publisher's copy". The first Durbar, Lord Lyttleton's, was held in 1877 to proclaim Queen Victoria as Empress of India, and like this 1902 Durbar to proclaim Edward VII as king, was not attended by the Monarch. It was not until the 1911 Durbar, when George V and Queen Mary went to India, was the Emperor and his Empress proclaimed in person to the people of India. Inman 228.
