Amsterdam: Jacob Wetstentius, [and] Utrecht, Hermann, 1743-46. 4 volumes, 4to (29.5 x 24 cm), engraved allegorical title, illustrated throughout with full page engraved plates; contemporary red crushed morocco, triple gilt roll to covers, spine gilt in six compartments, lettered direct in second and third, others gilt with very elaborate floral tooling, all edges gilt, gilt dentelles and outer edges, some slight fading to spines particularly of vol. IV (later binding to match). A handsome set.
Vol. IV is the Index Verborum ac Phrasium Luciani sive Lexicon a Car. Conrad Reitzio Lucianeum. Brunet calls this "Edition la plus estimée de cet auteur." Particularly important is the editing of Gesner. Hemsterhuis, a well known classicist was the father of F. Hemsterhuis, the Dutch philosopher. Brunet III, 1207.
