Tall 8vo, title, 49pp., large folding lithographed map, slight tears in margin, PRESENTATION COPY, specially bound by the author in dark green velvet, ruled in blind and gilt, elaborate gilt corner pieces, with lettering Son Altesse Eb-El-Hassan Mirza Cheihk Reis Hommage de l'Auteur, lower cover with bunch of flowers in gilt on lower cover, g.e. red silk doublures, Cabinet Portrait of Abdullah Freres of Pera in Constantinople, titled in Ottoman laid down on front pastedown, inscription in Ottoman similarly gilt bordered laid down opposite, photograph of Shah-Rais by Kargopoulo Pera Constantinople loosely inserted. Kargopolo was the first Ottoman subject to become a professional photographic artist. His clientele were principally the Imperial Family, upper level bureaucrats, statesmen, and military personnel, and he was awarded an appointment by Abdulhamid II as "Palace photographer" in early 1879.
The present work was edited and presented at the medical congress in Athens in April 1882. The preface states that since the public health problems which arose in the Red Sea, research had been done into the cholera epidemic and its source. The epidemic arose during the Hadje at Mecca.
